Traditional Crete Property, now for sale is this truly enchanting village home, renovated a couple of years ago to please nowadays needs, whilst leaving the former traditional architectural features and layout...

Completely renovated in 2009, this 200 year old house is certainly something very special. The historic walls have an original flair, but without having to give up amenities. The courtyard is the centre and heart of the home, and from here you can reach all rooms via separate entrances, just as it was usual in Crete years and centuries ago.

The old barn, with its massive wood beams was converted into a cosy living-dining area, taken to the authentic, traditional character preserved. Next to it is the separated 1st bedroom and up on the gallery is the 2nd bedroom.

The luxurious bathroom is equipped with all modern amenities, as it is the kitchen, which is modern and fully equipped (also with a restored wood-oven and modern electric oven Smeg).

The courtyard takes you into yesteryear and is THE place to relax or to gather with friends to enjoy meals and perfect evenings.

Location

Located in a tiny tranquil traditional settlement, close to the villages of Gavalochori, Douliana and Vamos, and a short drive away from the beaches of Almyrida (5km) and Georgioupolis (15km).

Gavalochori is a large old village, nestled in the foothills of the White Mountains, in the district of Apokoronas. The environment of this area of outstanding natural beauty is now protected by the program “Natura 2000”. In this traditional village various fine examples of the traditional rural architecture can be found, such as the 18th century olive press, the church of the Panagia and that of Agios Sergios, the old school and the complex of the wells from the period of Venetian occupation. The Folklore Museum and the archaeological site of the Roman cemetery provide further witness to the long and fascinating history of the area. With the charm of a traditional Cretan village, interesting attractions, taverns, kafenia (traditional Greek coffeehouses), mini markets, a bakery, and the close proximity to the beaches at Almyrida, this village is the perfect place for holiday and permanent living.

Douliana is a peaceful, small, traditional village well-hidden from the massive, mainstream tourism. Here there are some fine examples of traditional architecture in new or renovated buildings; the traditional character of the area has put the village under architectural control and preservation. It is located 25km east of Chania, and 35km west of Rethymno. Douliana is the ideal place to relax, and enjoy the nature while staying with your partner or family. From here you can make everyday excursions to the sandy beaches of Almirida and Kalives (3-4km), or walk in the nature, under the blue sky and the hot sun. Here begins a very nice footpath which in old times connected Douliana with Gavalochori, which passes through a small gorge, a forest, and the spectacular chapel of Agios Gianis (St. John), build inside a cave. The village is on an altitude of 100m above sea level, with 40 houses in total, population 200 people.

There are two taverns serving excellent food found in the village or go to the nearby village of Vamos (2km) where one find more taverns and coffee shops. If you want to go out during the night for a drink you should try Almirida, Kalives or the Chania old Town (about half an hour by car). For the everyday shopping and general amenities, you should visit Vamos which is the area's administrative centre or one of the two waterfront villages (Kalives and Almirida).
