Following the national road from Chania to the West, after 23km you will arrive at Kolimbari. It is a small quite village at the sea, surrounded by a variety of landscape formed of mountains and gorges which in combination with the blue sky and the sea catch the eye of the visitor. In and near Kolimbari, there are several places of interest to visit: the Holy Monastery of Gonia, built in 1618 and dedicated to the Mother of God, the Cave of Saint John and the Orthodox Academy of Crete, a centre for dialogue where national and international conferences are organized. Taking Kolimbari as a starting point one can easily reach places of natural beauty, such as the beach Falassarna and Elafonissos, but also many traditional Cretan villages.
