86mē old village house in sound condition for sale, set on own land of 217,40mē in the centre of the old part of the village with a small courtyard (Avli) overlooking the sea towards Rethymno...

The property for sale is in need of some refurbishments and has already a newer extension of 10mē for the bathroom.

In front of the house is a small terrace via which one enters into the current living area with an adjoined room useable as dining area. From the living area one is reaching the big kitchen, the bedroom and a newer bathroom with shower, basin, toilet and space for a washing machine. The kitchen allows also access to the back yard with small garden and storage space.

In front of the house is an additional old gate leading via a path to the “Avli” at the rear of the house and as typical for the old traditional properties the walls are 60cm thick; windows and doors will have to be replaced, water and electricity are connected.

The large village is situated approx. 4 km to the east of Vamos and built in an outstanding position facing the sea with architecture dominated by the influence of the early and late years of the Turkish occupation. This influence is well preserved despite the existence of other architectural styles. The village is living the whole year around and kafenia, taverns and supermarkets can be found there. A small drive away, one will reach Embrosgialo, a small nice bay of turquoise water and in the other direction are the long sandy beaches of Georgioupolis.

Chania - Apokoronas - VAMOS
Chania - Apokoronas - VAMOS
The municipality of Vamos, the capital town of which bears the same name (communities of Vamos and Douliana), consists of the former districts of Gavalohori (Gavalohori, Agios Pavlos, Koprana, Agios Vasilios), Plaka (Plaka, Almirida, Kabia), Kokino Horio, Kaina, Kefala (Kefalas, Paleloni, Drapanos), Xerosternio (Xerosterni, Litsarda), Selia (Selia, Souri, Likotinara), Kalamitsi Alexandrou. It is a semi-mountainous area with interesting natural surroundings, dominated by local woody (oak, holm-oak, cypress, wild almond, carob, laurel and pear trees) or bushy (hairy thorny brooms, cretan sage, herbs etc.) flora and architectural heritage. Small villages, most of which are old, are spread throughout the area, which is characterised by a lack of water and limited agricultural productivity. While this lack of resources resulted in a severe reduction of the population it did not have any effect on the architectural character or the natural surroundings of the region until recently. This is the main reason why a lot of foreigners buy old houses or land and settle here. The biggest part of the steep, rocky coastline has preserved its natural wild beauty and is proposed to become a protected area under the Natura 2000 Environmental Management Program.
