10% increase in tourist traffic this year in Chania
Increase by 10% compared to last year was recorded in tourist arrivals this year in Chania with the largest increase by 30% registered by the arrivals at the port of Souda, in July and August, according to data released by the Prefecture of Chania .
92,521 passengers arrived In July 2010 by the ferry in Souda  and 104,726 passengers in August. In total, from January to the end of August arrived in Souda, 380,945 passengers. The total growth rate compared with the 2009 rate is of 10%.
Increase by 11% was noted by cruise ships.  In Souda, from April 2010 until the end of August 5,422 passengers arrived for cruises.
There was also a 12% increase in the period January - August at arrivals of passengers on domestic flights. The total number of arrived passengers was 163,863. Reduction of 2% compared with 2009 was shown in passengers of international flights. The number of passengers arrived from international flights was 458,428.
In accordance with the same total number of arrivals in Chania was 1,008,458 passengers, compared with 1,007,434 last year.
The sharp increase in arrivals of ships of the line was due to the competition developed with the launching of ships from both companies, said presenting the results the Prefect of Chania Gregory Archontakis. He also highlighted that Everyone involved in tourism will have to invest and support the tourism product in the prefecture. The Prefect of Chania referred to the efforts done for the tourist promotion of the region. He supported that With the right strategy, we have achieved good results.
Until August 2010, the Prefecture of Chania, participated in 33 tourism fairs (twenty-nine (29) abroad and four (4) in Greece). Until the end of 2010 is scheduled to participate in three other exhibitions (two (2) in Greece and one (1) abroad).
Furthermore, the advertising of the prefecture of Chania through leaflets, books, guidebooks, maps, forms the sum of 145.000 euros and the total amount that allocated was 590.000 euros. For tourism fairs were expended 200,000 euros, 145,000 euros were given to printed documents (leaflets, guidebooks, maps), 50.000 billion for hosting guests, 10,000 euros for gifts in events, 15.000 euros for conferences, 120,000 euros for advertising and  50,000 for promoting tourism conference.
