The one million surpassed the passenger traffic at Athens International Airport in the first month of the year, continuing the upward trend occurred at the end of 2009 and noting the historical record for that month.
Specifically, passengers in the first months of 2009 amounted to 1.051.683 people to 950.729 in January 2008.
The increase was mainly driven by domestic passenger traffic, that has been strengthened significantly by 18.8% in passengers to amount to 451.368 this year against 380.056 in January 2009. Passengers abroad rose to 600.315 this year to 570.673 passengers over the corresponding period last year, registering an increase of 5.2%.
Overall, passenger traffic by 10.6% in January, according to data from the International Council Airport, Athens ranks in second place among the major European airports, with the corresponding European average increase to 2, 3%.
Increase is seen in number of flights by 12.5%. In particular, domestic flights arrived in 7.970 to 6.657 last year. The international flights also showed an increase of 5.9% reaching this year in January, 7.696 compared to 7.267 last year.
