15% increase in arrivals of Russian and Ukrainian tourists in Crete
For targeted advertising and promotional activities abroad of Crete by the Region of Crete in collaboration with tourism operators on the island, that bring positive results to the local economy, talked today in his statements the Regional Director of Crete Mr. Stavros Arnaoutakis, returning from the international tourist exhibition "MITT 2012 Travel and Tourism" held in Moscow.
According to Mr. Arnaoutakis, Crete had an organized presence in the exhibition being in the spotlight and announced that during this year's tourist season is expected an increase in tourist arrivals to the island from Russia and Ukraine by 15%. The Region of Crete had contacts with officials in Moscow and Russian tour operators and during an event was held on Saturday, March the 24th, in Moscow for the advertising & promotion of tourism in Crete and Greek tourism in general, Mr. Stavros Arnaoutakis met at the kiosk of Crete with the Russian, having Greek origin, cosmonaut Theodore Giourtsikin (Grammatikopoulos).
As stated by the Regional Director of Crete, Mr. Theodore Giourtsikin promised that in his next trip into space is going to have with him a bottle of Cretan olive oil, a picture that will go around the world advertising throughout the excellent product of the island.
"The kiosk of Crete in the international exhibition in Moscow was the most organized and visited by thousands of visitors. It proved once again that wherever we go we bring organized and targeted benefits for the island" said, the Regional Director of Crete.
At the same event in Moscow, drawn were 40 nights for free for short vacation in Crete, an offer from the tourist businessmen of the island. At the same time, with actions of the Region of Crete, has already started for a month at a reasonable affordable price, of only 12.000 euros, a coordinated advertising, promotion of Crete in the Moscow Metro, where every day millions of people are moving.
Finally, the Regional Director of Crete reported that during the Holy Week will be in Crete a TV crew from the Russian news agency RIA-Novosti in order to film a documentary on the celebration of Easter in Crete, in view in Russia of the religious tourism of Greece. It will film three other documentaries, for Agrotourism, the Cretan product tasting as well as historical and archaeological sites.
